Walking to the Marble Arch cave, in what is now a wilderness park, I came across a clearing in a forest and suddenly realised that somebody had once lived there distilling Eucalyptus oil. Scattered around the clearing were a few bits of rusted mesh, a kero tin, a depression in the ground where a shed had once stood and the stones of a basic hearth. A bit further away part hidden by 20 years of regrowth, was a cast-iron boiler and some lengths of iron pipe. This is where the inspiration for ‘site’ began. John R Walker 2011
