Walker’s emergence as a force in contemporary landscape painting is celebrated by the exhibition John R.Walker: Journey Through Landscape at the S.H. Ervin Gallery – a survey of nine years’ work that shows the artist growing more ambitious in scale and handling as his relationship with a particular environment becomes more intimate.         John McDonald  SMH 7 June 2008

The National Trust S H Ervin Gallery presented a major survey of a decade of John R Walker’s landscape work in 2008. Regarded as one of Australia’s foremost painters, the exhibition included paintings, gouaches on paper, artist books and ink studies, with major loans from important public and private collections.
